Marketing Apps with AdMob

This entry was posted by Wednesday, 28 December, 2011

With my recent application Etiquette Me, I’m doing some experiments.

  • The app is delivering Ad to make some money.
  • And I spent some money to advertise the app.

The two experiment have been done with AdMob’s service. I just want to have my own experience about them. This is the reason I’m calling it as ‘experiment’.
Although the download count is very low, it’s 424 total installs now, the apps is delivering AD and making some money for me. I’ve earned $0.7. I’ll keep testing the AD to make more money. And I’ll share my experience later.

Today I just want to share my spending money to advertising my Etiquette Me.

1. Starting AdMob campaign

To use AdMob’s campaign you need to add some money to your account on AdMob. I’ve just put $50 for this test. Then create new campaign. To promote your apps you need to make ’tile image’ which will be shown to users. It’s quite simple. Just prepare a 38×38 image. You can make an ad with a few clicks.

2. Budget

AdMob will ask you about budget. The budget is the amount to be spent in a day. Also you can set ‘bid’ which is the cost you will pay if a user clicks your campaign. I entered %50 for the budget and $0.04 for the bid.

3. Result

I didn’t expect that the AdMob campaign would finish fast. But it’s really fast. My $50 budget was exhausted in an hour. The ad was displayed 180,109 times and clicked 1,262 times. I cannot believe the speed. Can you believe it?

4. Conversion tracking

AdMob gives a tool that can track the count of installation which is drived by the clicks.
I’ve got 5 installs out of 1,045 clicks. The report also gives cost per install. It is $8.36 for my campaign.

I know that this is not encouraging result. But I was able to have real idea about what AdMob campaign is. I will look into AdMob’s setting to analyze my case.
